As an island, the UK has a rich sailing history and it is something that is still celebrated today. At Fabsil, we’re big fans of sailing, yachting, boating and pretty much any activity spent on or in the water. Since March commences the UK sailing season, Fabsil has compiled some of the biggest and most popular events to add to your sailing calendar. The sailing season runs till November, so you’ve got plenty of time to ensure you tick some exciting races and historic regattas off your 2025 bingo card.

 

The London Boat Show, 30th Apr-4th May

A major highlight of the UK’s maritime calendar, the London Boat Show showcases the latest in sailing technology and yacht design. This event is perfect for those looking to explore the latest trends in the boating world. Attendees can hear talks from industry experts, discover top sailing brands and meet plenty of like-minded enthusiasts.

 

The Scottish Series, 23rd-26th May

Scotland’s biggest sailing event, the Scottish Series, takes place in the stunning waters of Loch Fyne. The Clyde Cruising Club hosts the regatta, attracting expert sailors and celebrating Scottish maritime culture. It is known for its challenging sailing conditions and beautiful surroundings.

 

Round the Island Race, 7th June

This thrilling one-day race sees over 1500 boats and 15,000 sailors navigate a 50-nautical-mile course around the Isle of Wight. Open to professionals and amateurs alike, it’s one of the most popular and easiest races to enter, offering some spectacular views whilst challenging participants with choppy waters.

 

Falmouth Classics, 13-15th June

Falmouth Classics is one of Cornwall’s most beloved sailing events, taking place over three days and combining high-quality racing with vibrant shoreside celebrations. The event attracts a variety of sailing abilities and offers a packed schedule of races, making it a highlight in the calendar of any sailing fan.

 

 

Henley Royal Regatta, 1-6th July

Although primarily a rowing event, the Henley Royal Regatta is an iconic fixture in the British maritime calendar. Held on the River Thames in Henley-on-Thames, Oxfordshire, this historic regatta attracts top rowing teams from around the world. The riverside setting, smart dress code and exclusive enclosures make the Henley Royal Regatta one of the most prestigious maritime events in the world.

 

Fastnet Race, 26th July

Regarded as one of the world’s toughest offshore races, the Fastnet Race is a biennial event covering 695 nautical miles. Starting from Cowes in the Isle of Wight and finishing in Plymouth, looping around the infamous Fastnet Rock, the race challenges sailors with unpredictable weather and strong tides. 2025 marks the race’s 100th anniversary, so this really is not one to be missed!

 

Cowes Week, 2-8th August

One of the oldest and most reputable regattas, Cowes Week, has been held annually since 1826 (next year will be its 200th anniversary). Located on the Solent, a strait between the south coast of England and the Isle of Wight, this event attracts thousands of competitors and spectators. It features competitive racing and plenty of on-land entertainment. Cowes Week is a must-see experience for those passionate about boats and sailing.

 

Dartmouth Royal Regatta, 28-30th August

Held in the picturesque town of Dartmouth, Devon, the Dartmouth Royal Regatta is one of the UK’s most scenic and historic sailing events. Involving nautical, on-land and airborne sports and attractions, it pulls in contestants and spectators from all across the country. To kick off the regatta, a special opening ceremony takes place on Friday the 27th and an explosive fireworks display lights up the Devon sky on Saturday the 30th – be there or miss out!

 

Southampton International Boat Show, 19-28th September

At the Southampton International Boat Show, there’s something for everyone. Fantastic for families, watersport fanatics and people who are serious about boat buying, there are plenty of marine brands to check out and a plethora of boats, paddleboats and yachts moored in Europe’s largest purpose-built marina. There’s even the option to get involved with different water-based sports!
